One of the biggest names in the Bay Area hyphy movement, rapper E-40 has been a force in hip-hop since the early 90s. Born Earl Stevens in Vallejo, California, the MC has had over ten successful album releases. With underground roots, E-40 has successfully crossed over to the mainstream of hip-hop and rap.
His first several albums were not mainstream, but E-40 had and still has a huge Bay Area fanbase. Two of his songs from the 1990s, “1-Luv” and “Things’ll Never Change” made it onto the Billboard Top 100 list. E-40 is also host of popular radio show, E-Freezy Radio, a weekly San Francisco hip-hop show.
E-40’s biggest single “Tell Me When To Go” is a hyphy anthem featuring Oakland rapper Keak Da Sneak. He took this huge success and released “U And Dat” with T-Pain and Kandi Girl, another mega hit. As of 2010, E-40 has released two more albums with two more dropping in 2011.
